If you’re an eye-care professional, you often find yourself dealing with patients who moan and groan when you suggest that it’s time to dilate their eyes. They dislike how dilation makes their eyes sensitive to light and their vision blurry for a few hours.

As a professional, you know that dilation is a necessary part of a thorough eye exam, especially if you want to check for common vision problems and eye diseases – many of which have no noticeable symptoms or early warning signs.

If your patients are resisting dilation, let them know that the eye drops that are used for dilation cause the pupils to widen and let in more light so that you can get a better view of the back of the eye. With this improved view, you will be better able to diagnosis the following conditions:

• Macular degeneration
• Retinal detachment
• Glaucoma
• Infectious diseases
• Eye tumors
• Diabetes
• High blood pressure

Depending on your patient’s health history, dilation is recommended every one to two years. And yes, it can be a hassle for some of your patients, but it certainly is better than letting any of the conditions or diseases listed above go unchecked.

To help ease your patients’ concerns and sensitivity to light after dilation, just hand them a pair of Rollens Platinum Gray or Amber Gold sunglasses, which are highly effective at protecting post-mydriatic patients’ light-sensitive eyes by blocking out harmful sunlight. Their contoured shape and head-hugging design offer significantly more protection from annoying side glare than conventional post-myds. In addition, Rollens offer 100% ultraviolet protection and only 6% to 8% visible light transmission.

With Rollens lenses in hand, your patients will appreciate that you are thinking about their drive home and protecting their eyes with a good pair of sunglasses. And maybe, just maybe, they won’t be so resistant to dilation in the future.
